Created by a Juilliard-Trained, Berklee-Shaped Bassist...

The Two Maps That Let Any Upright Player Break Free From Music Sheets, Scales, and Boxes

If you can play a major scale, you can apply the same frameworks I built from my conservatory training and stage experience... all in just 12 weeks.

A Structured System for Bassists Who Are Ready to Finally Break Through

If you've been playing for years…

If you're tired of sounding like every other bassist…

If you're stuck copying tabs and can't create your own lines…

You're not alone.

Most bassists don't struggle because they're lazy or untalented.
They struggle because they've never learned how to develop their own voice.

They've been taught to copy, not create.
They've been taught patterns, not personality.
They've been taught to be invisible, not irreplaceable.

That's what The Maps system changes.

A Step-by-Step System You Can Study On Your Own Schedule

Follow along with the current live cohort, get every recording, and progress week by week at your own pace.

The Week-by-Week Transformation

Each stage of The Maps System builds on the last — guiding you from structure to freedom in just 12 weeks

Week 1-2

The Harmony Map – 1-3-5-7 Foundation

Lay the cornerstone of the Maps System by mastering chord tones (1, 3, 5, 7). Learn how these "compass points" guide every bass line and solo — and apply them to jazz standards like the Blues and Autumn Leaves.

Week 3-4

Deepening the Harmony Map

Stop relying on shapes and boxes. Drill chord tones across the entire neck until you can navigate any progression instinctively. This is where the fingerboard begins to open up under your fingers.

Week 5-6

The Positioning Map – Fingerboard Freedom

Unlock the Davis Positioning System™ to move fluidly across the neck. Learn to visualize harmonic "landmarks" so you're never trapped in one position again. The Harmony Map now becomes a true navigation tool.

Week 7-8

The Language Map – Bebop Vocabulary

Dive into bebop heads and lines as the raw material for improvisation. See how the masters balanced "right" and "wrong" notes, and start weaving this language into your walking and soloing.

Week 9-10

The Wrong Notes Map – Tension & Release

Learn the secret of jazz phrasing: how chromatic "wrong" notes resolve into the right ones. Instead of avoiding dissonance, you'll use it to create forward motion and personality in your solos.

Week 11-12

The Integration Map – From Structure to Freedom

Pull everything together with the Harmonic Navigator™ and Freedom Framework™. Move seamlessly from groove to solo, support any ensemble, and balance discipline with creativity. This is where you claim your unique voice.

What Happens When You Stop Copying and Start Creating

Every week I get messages like these from bassists who finally found their breakthrough

"You corrected a big wrong direction I was going down. That video about right hand technique made the secret click - now the whole piece feels fluid to play. Feel like I've leveled up a lot after all that!"

Keith

From stuck to fluid in one breakthrough

"I genuinely learned so much and saw serious growth. Your help through college prescreens was immensely helpful. I eventually committed to NEC!"

Bug Jaffe

Now at New England Conservatory

"You've provided a vehicle to decipher any Jazz Standard concerning walking and soloing through chord changes. I'm practicing these techniques on every tune now. You're a special breed of musician."

Paige Smith

Unlocked the jazz language

"After 52 years on electric bass and arthritis acting up, I took your approach and began playing across the fingerboard. Why so many upright players leave half their fingerboard untouched always amazes me."

@TheBassfresh

Veteran discovering new techniques

"No bass player in my hometown could teach these tunes. Had to go to a piano player but he doesn't understand double bass specifics. Can't wait for our next lesson!"

Carlo Andrea Garella

Finally found specialized instruction

"Thank you for the best site for jazz double bass on the entire web. Not only an excellent player but an even more extraordinary teacher."

Terkel Møhl

Learning from Denmark

From Bedroom Players to Working Musicians

Students from Sweden to Spain. High schoolers getting into conservatories. 52-year veterans finding new approaches. Adult beginners finally breaking through.

They all have one thing in common: They stopped copying and started creating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is The Maps Method: On-Demand for?

The On-Demand version is built for upright bassists who want to develop a real voice on the instrument without waiting for the next live cohort. It’s perfect if you’re self-driven and like to practice on your own schedule.

  • Players who already know basic scales or tunes but feel stuck repeating the same patterns
  • Gigging or college-level bassists who want to sound more creative and less mechanical
  • Hobbyists who want a structured path to musical freedom instead of endless exercises
  • Teachers looking for a clear framework to pass on to students

If you’re brand new to the upright and haven’t learned basic technique yet, start with private lessons first. But if you can play a major scale and you’re ready to learn how to make it sing—this program will meet you right where you are.

How does The Maps Method: On-Demand work?

When you join, you’ll get instant access to Weeks 1 & 2 of the program. Each following week, a new recorded session unlocks automatically as the live cohort progresses. You’ll watch studio-quality lessons—filmed on my pro setup, not Zoom—and follow the same 12-week path step by step.

Are the lessons live?

The On-Demand lessons are pre-recorded in high-quality video so you can watch anytime. However, if you join during launch week, you’ll also be invited to three live group calls with me—one each month for the next three months—to check in, ask questions, and stay on track.

How long do I have access to the material?

You’ll get lifetime access to all videos, PDFs, and Map diagrams. Once you’re in, you can revisit any lesson whenever you want—no expiration, no subscriptions.

Do I need to know music theory?

Basic theory helps, but it’s not required. The Maps Method teaches theory through sound and movement on the bass, not through textbooks. You’ll internalize harmony and phrasing by playing, not memorizing.

Can I use this on electric bass?

Yes. The Maps translate directly to electric. You’ll see examples on upright, but the concepts—interval movement, positioning, and phrasing—apply perfectly on any bass.

What if I have questions while going through the program?

You can ask them during the three bonus live calls, or email my team anytime. I personally read what comes in and often answer questions in future videos.

Is there a refund policy?

Yes. If you go through the first two weeks and feel the program isn’t right for you, just reach out within 14 days for a full refund. No hard feelings—I want every student to feel confident in their investment.
