About this course

It’s common to feel overwhelmed by all of the options you can play over a chord. Rather than giving you all the options at once, this course gives you a step-by-step guide to tackling one extension at a time — allowing you to hear each individual extension before you start soloing over a chord progression. Another challenge we face when soloing is when to use the extensions as opposed to the essential notes in the chord. This course gives you a clear outline of when to use extensions, using a simple 80-20 ratio of Right Notes and Wrong Notes. With a clear breakdown of all the extensions and how they are used, you will get much closer to playing lines and phrases similar to ones you might hear on records.

In the last chapter of this course, Cole Davis focuses on the concept of chromaticism, which is often made into something far more complicated than it needs to be. Chromaticism is essentially just half steps, which is clearly explained in chapter 5 of this course. Intermediate Soloing and Improvisation Concepts makes the complicated simple by giving you a clear path towards playing next level solos over any chord progression.

  • Why it’s important to learn different extensions
  • How to start hearing tensions and half steps in your lines
  • The simplest way to start using chromaticism
  • Plenty of exercises to get to the next harmonic level in your playing
  • And more!
