How to work through it
- Start on all four at a tempo you can already play something at. Slower is fine.
- Move to 2 and 4. The click stops being a metronome and starts being a snare drum.
- Try 1 and 3. It should feel wrong at first if you're used to 2 and 4. That's the point.
- Finish on beat 4 only. You keep the other three yourself, which is the whole exercise.
- If you lose it, keep playing and wait for the click to come back around.
